Dog pawrent brings renewed energy to senior pupper by adopting street puppy after noticing her canine child looked sad and lonely, reigniting her spark and play drive after years of inactivity

As pawrents we only want the best for our fur babies. Whether that means premium food, fancy leashes or the latest toys, we will go to the ends of the earth and back to make them happy. And that is exactly what this pupper pawrent did when they noticed their soul dog getting lonely after 17 years of just the two of them together.

Reddit's r/DOG subreddit is a wonderful place to post pupper pics, ask questions related to raising doggos and share heartwarming stories like the one we have lined up for you today. But unlike many of the stories of canine rescue that we often have for you, this one speaks to the experience of a dedicated pupper pawrent who just wanted to do right by their dog in their final few years of life. Having noticed a change in her loyal pal's behavior his pawrent took it upon herself to find him a suitable companion with which he could spend the rest of his days chilling out and cuddling.

What is interesting is that she never intended on adopting a puppy at all. Thinking initially that it would make more sense to find another senior pupper with similar energy levels who would want to do nothing all day other than lay down and cuddle. But what she did not realize is that senior dogs, much like people, are rather set in their ways, tough to change and easy to annoy. Which could have very easily meant that the doggo who would have come home with her would have ended up despising their new sibling. Thankfully fate had something else in mind for this pawrent and her soul dog, something far sweeter than they could have ever expected.

  • Wow, this is quite the interesting pawrent conundrum to be in. On the one hand you do not want to cause your senior pupper to spend their final years sad and alone without any canine company. But at the same time there is no telling how they will adjust to having canine company at their advanced age. But as it is usually better to act than to do nothing in this life we completely support this pawrent’s efforts to find a canine buddy for her doggo to cuddle up to. Though we have to say we would not have initially thought of an older street dog. While of a similar needs base in life, being so old also means that the doggo would be rather set in its ways. Something which could quite easily cause a clash of pawsonality between the puppers.

  • There truly is nothing like a fresh start to shake things up, and after 17 years of it being just the two of them a brand new puppy is certainly going to shake things up at home. In the worst case puppy and the resident doggo do not get along famously, but thankfully due to the difference in ages the rivalry would be relatively negligible. But in the case that the puppers do actually get on, well, that is a pawrent’s wildest dream and so worth the risk of taking on the work load and labor of a puppy.
